Congresswoman Torres Secures $59 Million for Water Resource Development in the Inland Empire
Washington D.C. –– Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35), applauds the House passage of the Water Resource Development Act of 2024 (WRDA). Congresswoman Torres successfully secured authorization for federal assistance for two water development and infrastructure projects in the Inland Empire. These projects include:
- $35,000,000 for water and wastewater infrastructure, including water supply and drinking water, in Pomona, California; and
- $24,000,000 for flood risk management in San Bernardino County.
“Every American deserves reliable access to clean water and the peace of mind they are protected from major floods, yet the challenges of inadequate water infrastructure and flood risk mitigation continue to harm our communities throughout the Inland Empire,” said Congresswoman Norma Torres. “Clean water is a must, as is the need for reliable water infrastructure to maintain good health and prevent the spread of disease or destructive floods.”
“The $59 million I secured for the Inland Empire in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024 means hundreds of good-paying jobs and consistent access to clean drinking water all while safeguarding our communities from destructive floods like the ones we experienced earlier this year. As extreme weather events become more frequent due to climate change, we need these proactive investments now more than ever.”
WRDA has long funded essential water infrastructure projects across all 50 states, territories, and Tribal communities. These projects have contributed to bolstering community resilience, access to clean water, flood prevention, and mitigating the extreme water shortages felt across the nation. The two projects included by Congresswoman Torres in WRDA 2024, along with all other projects in the bill, add to this effort. The bill will now advance to the Senate.
