Washington D.C. –– Congresswoman Norma J. Torres statement on attack to district office:
Today, interns and staff in my District Office discovered a suspicious, white powdery substance in two incoming letters addressed to my office. U.S. Capitol Police and local law enforcement have been informed. Hazmat teams are on site investigating the substance and my staff are remaining in place until more information is found. No one is experiencing any symptoms at this time, and all normal operating precautions were observed, including the use of airtight equipment while opening the letters. However, out of an abundance of caution, my staff will be sheltering in place until local law enforcement determines the nature of the substance and will follow their guidance on the next best course of action.
