Congresswoman Norma Torres’ Statement on Speaker Pelosi
Washington, D.C. – Following Speaker Nancy Pelosi's remarks on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) issued the following statement:
"Speaker Pelosi has been a fierce, fearless public servant throughout her time in office, and I am proud to call her my friend, mentor, and role model. During my own time in Congress, she has inspired me and countless others as the leader of the People's House to do all we can to deliver for the American people.
"I will always be grateful that Speaker Pelosi entrusted me with the responsibility of serving on the House's Rules Committee and that the speaker herself joined our Congressional delegation to Guatemala to speak directly with its people. The latter was a deeply personal and emotional trip for me to the place of my birth, and I was honored by her presence and participation.
"As a fellow Californian, I admire her for the work she has done on behalf of our state and for the millions of working families across the United States whose lives were made better by her historic leadership. With her time as speaker coming to a close, I join my colleagues in offering heartfelt thanks for all that she has done in service to our great nation, though words alone cannot express this gratitude.
"Thank you, Speaker Pelosi, and I wish you, Paul, and your family all the best as you embark on your next chapter."
