Congresswoman Norma Torres Releases Statement on Russian Invasion of Ukraine
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) released the following statement on the Russian invasion of Ukraine:
"Vladimir Putin's unprompted invasion of Ukraine is a clear threat to democracy and national security worldwide that will result in senseless suffering and death. I strongly condemn Russia's actions, and reject the false pretenses under which Putin is trying to justify this attack. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I have worked with my colleagues in Congress to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression, and I remain committed to standing with them in this crisis.
I commend President Zelenskyy for his steadfast and courageous leadership in the face of such danger, and thank President Biden for responding to this attack quickly and with strength. We must continue to oppose this violation of peace and international norms, not only in word, but with definitive action."
