Politics can be messy, but Norma Torres isn’t afraid to get a little dirty.

“I love to ride a dirt bike whenever I can,” the House freshman and former 911 dispatcher said.

“Just that wind. You know, that dirt and the speed, it’s amazing,” she says.

When she’s not suited up in her safety gear as she’s zipping along on two wheels, Torres enjoys 3-mile hikes with her husband and their pair of rescue dogs, and “spoiling” the newest member of the family — her grandson.

But there’s a rule in grandma’s house, she said. “There’s no crying. You’re going to have to learn to talk, because you don’t cry in this house.”

“Erase those tears, you can’t cry in here,” the mom of three added.

When asked if that same rule applies to her Capitol Hill office, Torres replied with a laugh, “Oh yes, there’s no whining here.”
