Rep. Torres Introduces the 911 SAVES Act at Press Conference on March 7, 2019
It’s a big week for the nation’s 100,000 public safety telecommunicators! Before I was elected to Congress, I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for more than 17 years. I know firsthand the challenges they face, the stress they are put under, and the importance of their work. They are so much than clerical workers, like the Office of Management and Budget considers them. This week, I joined with Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick to introduce H.R. 1629, the bipartisan #911SAVES Act to reclassify these jobs as “Protective Service Occupations.” It’s a long overdue step to recognize the lifesaving work 9-1-1 dispatchers do each and every day to keep our communities safe.
