Torres Statement in Anticipation of Pope's Address to Congress

September 23, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Rep. Norma J. Torres (D-Pomona) issued the following statement on the Pope's visit to Congress and what she hopes to hear during his address:

"Pope Francis has breathed new life into the Church, but his impact has gone far beyond Catholicism. By engaging in issues like climate change, immigrants' rights, and economic justice, he has solidified his role as not only a religious figure but also a humanitarian and moral leader for individuals of all faiths. I look forward to the Pope addressing these very important issues, but more than that I'm looking forward to being inspired by his enthusiasm and vision for a more just and peaceful world.

"The Catholic Church has faced its challenges over the last few years and with it my own faith has been tested. The Pope's commitment to justice, to forgiveness, and to respect for all have brought me back to my Church. I hope the Pope's message to Congress reflects those values and inspires us all to be better global citizens."
