Torres Announces $80M to Support Homeless & At-Risk Inland Empire Residents
ONTARIO, CA—Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development, today announced nearly $80 million in new Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funding to support homeless Americans and individuals at risk of becoming homeless because of hardships such as job loss, wage reduction, or illness due to COVID-19.
The funds are authorized as part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) final round of allocation from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in March.

Rep. Torres released the following statement:
"Some of the Inland Empire's most vulnerable residents will be more secure in their homes – and safer from coronavirus – as a result of the funds I'm announcing today," Rep. Torres said. "With our economy in lockdown, too many of us are struggling to keep a roof overhead. One of the most important things we can do to protect our community and prevent the spread of this disease is keep residents in their homes, and help those without one find shelter. With nearly $80 million in federal funding to do exactly that, this grant will keep Inland Empire neighborhoods intact and our communities healthy."
Since Congress passed the CARES Act on March 27th, Rep. Torres has announced more than $156 million in emergency relief for Inland Empire residents, businesses and community organizations.
