Rep. Torres: We Need a Uniter – Trump isn’t one

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) released the following statement responding to President Trump’s State of the Union address:

“The American people need someone to unite the country – President Trump simply isn’t that person,” Rep. Torres said. “If he took to the podium tonight to share his vision for growing our economy and improving life for residents of the Inland Empire, I would be all ears. Instead, Donald Trump – the only president in history to be impeached in his first term, and whose ethics cloud remains ominous as ever – used this speech to scare voters about daring to support someone else in 2020.

“Friends and foes alike have watched this president dismantle our nation’s moral character on the global stage for three years now, and tonight, Trump showed no signs of letting up,” Torres continued. “Instead, Trump offered more of the same – meanspirited rhetoric with no tether to reality, disingenuously intended to manipulate his audience into believing he’s something he’s not…a leader.”
