Lawmaker Hosts Reception Honoring 14 Nominees from Inland Empire

ONTARIO, CA – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today hosted a reception at her district office in Ontario announcing 14 military academy nominations she is recommending from across the Inland Empire.

Each year, Rep. Torres nominates promising high school seniors from California’s 35th Congressional District for the honor of studying at esteemed military academies across the United States, providing an equivalent scholarship of $500,000 for each student. This year is Rep. Torres’ largest group of nominations to date.

“The fourteen students I’m nominating today are as dedicated to public service as they are to their academics – they are exactly who our community here in the Inland Empire should have representing us at our nation’s five military academies,” Rep. Torres said. “As the mother of an Air Force veteran, I know firsthand about the sacrifices that these young leaders and their families are volunteering for. Today is a day for us to honor their commitment to placing community and country above all else, and to wish them luck in their placements.”
