New Dem Affordable Housing Task Force Chair Torres Applauds Biden Administration’s Efforts to Address Affordable Housing Crisis
Washington, D.C. – New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Affordable Housing Task Force Chair Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today released a statement applauding the Biden Administration for taking action to build more housing and lower costs by removing barriers to inclusive housing production, something New Dems have consistently called for through our Affordable Housing Task Force.
This announcement builds on the Coalition’s work to increase safe, stable, and accessible housing. New Dems continue to advocate for additional actions to promote better zoning, planning, and permitting and accelerate housing development through the implementation of critical Bipartisan Infrastructure Law programs. Last year, New Dems sent a letter to President Biden on this effort and recently made affordable housing central to our Economic Opportunity Agenda.
Affordable Housing Task Force Chair Norma Torres released the following statement:
“New Dems applaud the Biden Administration for taking action to ensure we build an economy where everyone has access to safe and affordable housing. We are pleased these new actions reflect the Coalition’s work to lower barriers to housing and prioritize transit-oriented development programs that we outlined in our Economic Opportunity Agenda.
“However, we recognize that administrative action alone is not enough to address the scope of the housing crisis, particularly for those with the lowest incomes. New Dems will continue to work with our colleagues on both sides of the aisle and Capitol to pass durable legislation so every American has access to a safe and affordable home.”
