Congresswoman Torres Commemorates 2nd Anniversary of Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol Attack

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) released the following statement on the second anniversary of the January 6 insurrection at the United States Capitol:

"Two years ago, a deadly group of insurrectionists – provoked by the former president of the United States – attacked the U.S. Capitol. This violence was nothing short of an attempt to tear our democracy apart. I was in the House Gallery when the Capitol was breached, and my colleagues and I witnessed it all, fearing what might happen to us.

"Thanks to the bravery and heroism of our Capitol Police Officers and others, democracy and freedom prevailed. I join all my colleagues in honoring their actions and remembering the five officers who lost their lives, as well as those who were injured defending our democracy.

"Jan. 6 is a solemn reminder that we cannot take our democracy for granted and that threats to our nation's institutions and freedoms remain. America must never forget what happened on this violent, bloody day, and as long as I am in Congress, I will never stop fighting to preserve and defend our democracy."
