2018 CARE Sierra Leone - Women Economic Empowerment

In August, I traveled to Sierra Leone with CARE Action, where I met incredible women like Aunty Marion, who are leading their communities’ recovery from the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Aunty Marion lost her husband to the disease and is a survivor herself. In addition to being a community health worker, she’s leading her village’s savings and loan program and helping women to learn how to save. Some have even opened up businesses because of it! Aunty Marion is a clear example of how important it is to invest in women’s economic empowerment here at home and abroad.
