Torres Statement on DHS Funding Agreement

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Norma J. Torres (D-Pomona), released the following statement following House passage of a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security for Fiscal Year 2015:

I am pleased we have been able to pass a bill and guarantee funding for the Department of Homeland Security for the coming year, but disappointed we ever got to this point. Our national security agencies need certainty, consistency, and the ability to adequately plan and prepare for the long-term.

Placing unnecessary burdens on the Department that is tasked with keeping this nation safe was reckless and irresponsible. Moving forward, I hope my colleagues will put politics aside and put the needs of the American people first.

Rep. Torres represents California's 35th congressional district and is a member of the House Homeland Security Committee.
