Torres Announces $1.5 Million for Clean Water in Chino
POMONA – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today announced two Department of Interior grants totaling $1.5 million to help provide clean water to the City of Chino.
The grants, each totaling $750,000, will help in the construction of a wellhead treatment facility to bring a retired well back into service, and support an effort to remove groundwater contaminants near the Chino Airport.
Recipient | Project | Amount |
City of Chino | Well 14 On-Site Wellhead Treatment | $750,000 |
IE Utilities Agency | Granular Activated Carbon Treatment Facility | $750,000 |
Cumulatively, these projects will yield more than 5,000 acre-feet per year in treated water for the local potable water supply for a region that has experienced severe drought conditions since 2014.
Rep. Torres released the following statement:
"The ongoing drought conditions in the Inland Empire and across California make it more important than ever to ensure local water supplies are reliable, safe and clean," Rep. Torres said. "The funds I'm announcing today will help bring a well previously closed due to ground contaminants back into safe operation, and continue ongoing efforts to remove toxins that have spoiled groundwater near the Chino Airport since 1989. The increase in local supply means the Chino community will be less beholden to outside sources, and more water secure in the years to come."
