Rep. Torres Votes to Move Coronavirus Relief Forward
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today helped pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, legislation that provides emergency relief to alleviate the impact working Americans face from coronavirus' impact on our economy.
Among other things, the legislation provides for is free coronavirus testing for everyone – including the uninsured; establishes two weeks of paid sick leave and up to three months of paid family and medical leave; strengthens food assistance that more than 22 million children rely on; enhances unemployment aid for furloughed workers; protects healthcare workers on the front lines of this virus and safeguards Medicaid benefits.
"Our coronavirus response will dramatically impact the economy and millions of working Americans whose livelihoods depend on it," Rep. Torres said. "For someone holding down multiple jobs just to get by, or living one contract opportunity to the next, the ability to pay rent or simply put food on the table is seriously at risk. The bill we passed tonight will ensure a semblance of stability across the country for those most at risk of hardship in the weeks and months ahead."
