In 118th Congress, Congresswoman Torres Retains Seat on Powerful Appropriations Committee, Joins House Administration
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) announced today that her committee assignments for the 118th Congress have been finalized. Congresswoman Torres will continue to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for appropriating all federal spending – both domestic and foreign. She will retain her subcommittee assignments on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD); State and Foreign Operations (SFOPS); and Financial Services and General Government (FSGG).
Torres is also joining the Committee on House Administration, which oversees federal elections and the day-to-day operations of the House of Representatives. This includes election integrity and security, daily functions of the House, federal institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution and Library of Congress, and security of the Capitol Complex. Congresswoman Torres will serve as Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Oversight.
"The people of California's 35th Congressional District sent me to Congress to invest in public transportation, build more affordable housing, lower health care and prescription drug costs, create good-paying jobs, make our communities safer, and defend our nation's democracy. I am honored to have been reappointed to the House Appropriations Committee and selected by Leader Hakeem Jeffries to serve on the Committee on House Administration because these committees will enable me to continue this work on behalf of Inland Empire families," said Congresswoman Torres. "As the 118th Congress kicks into high gear, I am eager to get to work and deliver results for my constituents."
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Rep. Torres has ensured that billions of federal dollars and resources are directed back to California and the Inland Empire. This includes $34 million for community projects to benefit Inland Empire residents and a series of legislative wins in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, such as investments in housing, childcare, transportation, and education.
Thanks to her leadership on the committee, Torres will continue to play a critical role in appropriating the trillions of dollars that our communities need via the American Rescue Plan Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, CHIPs and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act.
