Congresswoman Torres Announces Over $350,000 in Federal Funding for Safe Streets, Roads in City of Ontario
Pomona, CA — Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) announced today the delivery of $360,000 in federal grant funding to the City of Ontario for the development of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to reduce and eliminate serious injury and fatal crashes. This grant award from the Department of Transportation – made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – will address transportation insecurity, social and health vulnerabilities, and climate resilience with the goal of preventing future roadway death and serious injury for Ontario residents.
“Our communities deserve safe and walkable streets. For far too long, the Inland Empire has been underserved in comprehensive infrastructure investments,” said Congresswoman Torres. “This investment in safer roadways is a strong investment in our community’s thriving future, making neighborhoods more walkable for all Ontario families. I am proud to have passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is celebrating its 2-year anniversary today, to deliver these much-needed federal dollars to the Inland Empire and regions like it.”
“We are deeply grateful to Congresswoman Torres for her invaluable support of the City of Ontario. Her vote for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enabled the City to receive $360,000 in federal funds, propelling the City to the forefront of safety innovation with the Ontario SS4A Citywide Safety Action Plan. The creation of the Ontario SS4A Citywide Safety Action Plan will lead to a systemic and equitable approach to safety improvements through project prioritization, analysis of collisions and safety countermeasures, and targeted local community engagement. This is the first comprehensive safety plan conducted entirely within the City and will align with the Department of Transportation’s National Roadway Safety Strategy and the Safe System Approach of eliminating fatal and serious injuries,” said Khoi Do, Ontario City Engineer.
Congresswoman Torres serves on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, which oversees government funding for transportation and other key infrastructure programs. Earlier this month, she introduced the Pedestrian Hazard, Awareness and Safety Expansion (PHASE) Act to address rising pedestrian accidents and fatalities in regions like the Inland Empire.
