New Dem Affordable Housing Task Force Chair Torres Holds Meeting with National Association of Home Builders CEO
Washington, D.C. – Today, the New Democrat Coalition’s (NDC) Affordable Housing Task Force welcomed National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) CEO Jim Tobin to discuss the current state of America’s housing market and ways to expand pathways to homeownership for Americans.
Housing access and affordability are critical issues impacting communities across America, from big cities to small towns. Earlier this year, New Dems called for robust policy solutions to bolster affordable housing supply as part of our Economic Opportunity Agenda –– from eliminating discriminatory zoning policies and enhancing the low-income housing tax credit to strengthening supply chain resiliency through public-private partnerships.
As House Republicans push the government toward a shutdown this weekend, it’s critical the federal government continues support for Americans to remain in stable housing. New Dems are committed to ensuring that the Federal Housing Administration is able to continue to provide loans for homeowners, and that we extend the National Flood Insurance Program to protect Americans in case of emergencies.
NDC Affordable Housing Task Force Chair Norma J. Torres (CA-35) released a statement following today’s meeting:
“Access to a safe, decent place to call home remains a top issue for the families I represent in the Inland Empire. As Chair of the New Democrat Coalition’s Affordable Housing Task Force, I am working to break through partisan gridlock and ensure housing is available, accessible, and affordable for every American.
“We welcome the National Association of Home Builders as a critical partner for the New Democrat Coalition and our Task Force in our endeavors to shape federal policy to meet current and future housing market needs.”
