The deadline to file your federal tax return is Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Child Tax Credit

Under the American Rescue Plan, the Child Tax Credit was expanded for American families. For tax year 2022, families claiming the CTC will receive up to $3,000 per qualifying child between the ages of 6 and 17 at the end of 2022. They will receive $3,600 per qualifying child under age 6 at the end of 2022.

Online Filing

The IRS offers its Free File program for qualifying taxpayers with an income under $72,000. Free filing is available through IRS partner companies to prepare and file your federal tax return on their site. You will get an email notification when your return is accepted.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Workshops

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides free tax assistance to those with an income of $57,000 or less, those with disabilities, or those with limited English language skills. VITA Workshops provide one-on-one assistance with an IRS-certified volunteer, who will offer free basic income tax return preparation. More information on this program can be found here.
